NAC (N-acetyl cysteine, a form of the amino acid cysteine) helps your body make an enzyme called glutathione, which has been described as one of the body’s most powerful antioxidants. Antioxidants are thought to help protect your body’s cells from free radicals, which are altered oxygen molecules. Studies suggest that free radicals and the damage they cause play a significant role in the development of cancer, heart disease, and other conditions. Protecting your body from free radicals may offer some protection against these diseases.
