Finicky about Fish?

North American’s are notorious for their awful diet, which is poor in nutrients important for good health. One of the biggest concerns is a lack of eating fish on a regular basis. Typically, people will say that they simply do not like fish and that is why they have not incorporated fish into their diet.
With the multitude of health benefits from eating fish, people who are finicky about fish should take a daily fish oil supplement. If they don’t, they likely are not getting enough omega 3’s and are at risk for missing out on important health benefits such as:
• Reducing the risk of heart disease:
“The American Heart Association recommends fish and fish oil to reduce heart attack risk and to help those who already have had one. They also are suggested for people with high triglycerides, which are important fats found in the blood. Heart disease, obesity and diabetes are associated with high triglycerides.” (From the Chicago Tribune)
Other benefits include:
• Preventing reblockage of the arteries
• Improving inflammation due to joint problems, lupus or psoriasis
• Easing menstrual cramps
• Improving symptoms of depression
Fish oil has also been show to ease the pain of arthritis:
“Take fish oil. According to neurologists at the University of Pittsburgh, fish oil may work just as well as prescription drugs to ease arthritis pain.” (From Food as Medicine)
If you are finicky about fish, and are still leery about trying fish oil supplements, it is in your best health interest to take one. If you find that the first brand you try is not tolerable, try another. Side effects do vary from brand to brand. Remember to keep your fish oil supplement in the fridge for optimum freshness and to prevent rancidity.
