If any of us really knew what our bodies were exposed to everyday, we’d probably be frightened to ever leave the house. An unfortunate consequence of our industrious society is constant exposure to heavy metals and other dangerous toxins.
In fact, heavy metals like lead, mercury and arsenic are often found in significant portions within the tissues of the human body. It is important to detoxify the body of these heavy metals to ensure proper functioning of the liver. More people need to focus on their liver health since it is largest internal organ chiefly responsible for detoxifying harmful toxins from the body.
Your liver filters out toxins directly, as well as altering toxins so that they can be removed at other stages of detoxification. You may be astonished to learn that the liver filters toxins from about one liter of blood every minute! These are toxins that are produced by the body and toxins from outside the body and wastes that are sent to the kidneys or the colon. Other toxins, made up of compounds that the liver cannot filter, are broken down with enzymes so that they can be removed.
With a healthy liver being so important to your overall health, you may want to incorporate lifestyle changes like drinking plenty of water, regular exercise and a eating a healthy diet:
“The act of detoxing benefits not only the physical body but the mind as well. By taking the time to clean out the body’s systems you achieve a sense of inner purity i.e. you can imagine your insides being as clean as your outsides.” (From Exercise Pro)
Another change you can make is the addition of an N-acetyl cysteine supplement to help you maintain proper liver function:
“N-Acetylcysteine may also help the liver eliminate a wide range of pollutants such as auto exhaust, cigarette smoke, certain herbicides and some toxic metals. N-AcetylCysteine reduces the viscous mucous associated with respiratory diseases like chronic bronchitis.” (From Vitamin Supplement Reference)
Since N-acetyl cysteine enhances production of the antioxidant glutathione, it helps protect the tissues from the free radical damage produced by pollution and other toxins.
If you are interested in enhancing the detoxifying benefits of your liver for the long haul, consider taking an N-acetyl cysteine supplement. N-acetyl cysteine is available from your local health store or click here to purchase from Physician’s Preference.
