Amazing Healer

One prominent vitamin B6 researcher made this statement “Vitamin B6 is as important to your body as oxygen and water.”-1 More and more research is supporting this position of vitamin B6 as an amazing healer. From carpal tunnel syndrome and memory loss to diabetes and premenstrual syndrome, the list of conditions that vitamin B6 can help is long and growing.

Vitamin B6 is a jack-of-all-trades vitamin responsible for many of the chemical and metabolic processes in the body. Consider the many healing properties below:

  • A shortage of vitamin B6 has been linked to glucose intolerance. This shortage can also impair the secretion of insulin and glucagon, the hormone that tells the pancreas to stop producing insulin.
  • People suffering from decreased vitamin B6 may experience carpal tunnel syndrome. The inelasticity and swelling around the wrist could be due to a lack of B6.
  • Research is looking into vitamin B6 and ending asthma attacks by lowering the body’s histamine levels.
  • Vitamin B6’s role in maintaining hormonal balance helps women reduce mood swings during PMS. It also assists the liver to remove excess estrogen from the body, which can ease other PMS symptoms.
  • Vitamin B6 also has a broad role in our nervous system. Vitamin B6 is the key nutrient for creating an important group of molecules that send messages throughout the body called amines. Without adequate vitamin B6, the nervous system is affected.

Recent studies have also shown that vitamin B6 could be a key in fighting juvenile diabetes:

“The study involved administration of folate and vitamin B6 alone and in combination for eight weeks in 124 children with type 1 diabetes.

“The study concluded that high-dose folate and vitamin B6 might be helpful to normalize endothelial dysfunction in the children.” (From The Diabetes Blog)

Vitamin B6 has also shown to be a strong source of stress reducer:

“There are vitamins, minerals and herbs that will help you deal with stress and tension in your life…Vitamin B6 is necessary for the best production of the chemical serotonin.” (From Alternative Health)

Given its many healing properties and the fact that a large portion of the population is not getting enough of this important vitamin, you may want to consider supplementing with vitamin B6.
