The following supplements may reduce some of the symptoms of Depression:
1. Omega 3’s (fish oil) – prefer over flax seed as only about 20-30% of the flax seed converts to the proper form of Omega 3’s for the body. Research has shown 4-6 gms needed per day to help with depression. Can not use a cheap form must be PCB and mercury free and manufacturer can not use heat to produce the fish oil. Aid in the transmission of nerve impulses and is needed for normal brain function.
2. 5HTP- (5-hydroxytrptophan) amino acid precursor that increases the body’s production of serotonin. SHOULD NOT BE TAKE WITH ANTIDEPRESSANTS.
3. SAME (S-adenosylmethionine) – German form best. Works as an antidepressant. Should not be taken if have manic-depressive disorder.
4. B Complex – Injections recommended if for depression but if not use the liquid sub-lingual form for best absorption. B-12 is linked to the production of the neurotransmitter aceylcholine.
5. Inositol – 3 capsules per day. Inositol is one of the most versatile nutrients for promoting brain wellness, a positive and relaxed outlook, and restful sleep. It also is one of the most crucial nutrients for promoting female hormonal health through its role in supporting optimal liver function. Inositol also helps maintain healthy serotonin metabolism, and by so doing helps treat many conditions that involve poor serotonin function. Inositol promotes liver health, and works especially well when taken along with phosphatidyl choline.
6. Zinc – 50 mg daily Found to be deficient in people with depression.
