Many men and some women have sought out prescription and over the counter medications to help combat or prevent hair loss. Unfortunately, many of these remedies come with a high price tag and little results. Thankfully, there are many natural remedies, like inositol, which are cost effective and provide results. Inositol is a member of the B vitamin group and is a compound that occurs in the brain, muscles, liver, kidney and eyes.Hair loss occurs when the diet is inadequate in the B vitamins, especially B6, biotin, inositol and folic acid, as well as the minerals magnesium, sulfur and zinc. Research has demonstrated that certain essential amino acids control the thinning and thickening of hair in laboratory animals. In these studies, when rats were fed a diet low in inositol, they became hairless! In addition, the nutrient deficient condition was found to be reversible. When the rats were fed a diet rich in the B vitamins, it resulted in complete restoration of the hair.
One doctor, in a series of experiments, prescribed inositol together with other sources of B vitamins to all his balding patients. In almost all cases, hair loss was arrested, and in some cases hair growth was noticeable in as little as one month. An added benefit of inositol is that research shows that it can reduce the amount of blood cholesterol in people with high cholesterol levels.
If you are currently in the throes of hair loss or are concerned about maintaining your hair as you age, consider adding an inositol supplement to your vitamin regimen.
Inositol is available from your local health store or click here to purchase from Physician’s Preference and save 10-20%!
